Monday 2/16: No School President's Day

Tuesday 2/17: FCAT Sample Test. Homework: Study for the poetry test, pgs. 717-732 & Reading Log.

Wednesday 2/18: Poetry Presentations. Homework: Study for the poetry test, pgs. 717-732 & Reading Log.

Thursday 2/19: Poetry Test #2. Homework: FCAT Explorer Challenge & 30 Minutes of Reading.

Friday 2/20: Review the FCAT Sample Test from Tuesday and complete an Item Analysis.

GIFTED: Monster, by Walter Dean Myers. Read pgs. 1-43: Complete mini-assignment #1, Vocabulary #1, and Study Guide #1 for Tuesday's discussion.

Week of 2/9-2/13

Monday 2/9: District Mini-Formative #8 & #9 (5 questions each). School Wide Progress Report Day. In addition, I printed out a report to inform each student of their standing in ELA.

Tuesday 2/10: Understanding sound devices and reading poetry according to the punctuation. Pgs. 724-727. HW: Pg. 727 #31-3

Wednesday 2/11: Poetry continued--Understanding sound devices and reading poetry according to the punctuation. Pgs. 728 & 729. Homework: Review the sensory detail chart on pg. 717 and create your own chart on a sheet of notebook paper. Re-read "The Sidewalk Racer," "Haiku," and "Limerick" and fill in the chart. Be creative.

Thursday 2/12: Read "Parade" pg. 730 and discuss the sound devices used. HW: pgs. 731 and the top half of 732. Bonus points if you complete the bottom half of 732.

Friday 2/13: Alien Poem & Poster due on Tuesday.

NOTE: We will have poetry test #2 that will test from pg. 717-732 on Wednesday 2/18.

Also, Gifted students please have your copy of Monster by Tuesday.

Reminder to the Gifted Class: Be sure to have your copy of Monster by Walter Dean Myers by Wednesday, February 11. You might consider visiting your local library and checking out a copy for your use.

Monday 2/2: Narrative and Lyric Poetry Test

Tuesday 2/3: Using Your Senses--Understanding Sensory Details in Limericks (poetry). Read pgs. 716-719. Homework: pg. 719 #1-4

Wednesday 2/4: Early Dismissal. Revisiting F.R.I.E.S.S. Students selected one writing assignment from their portfolio and edited the piece using F.R.I.E.S.S. Homework: Re-write the essay after you have added the additional elements as per the mini lesson.

Thursday 2/5: Using Your Senses (Understanding Sensory Details) in a Haiku. Pg. 720. Homework: pg. 721 all and the top half of 722

Friday 2/6: Creative writing. Write a limerick, concrete, or narrative poem. Use pg. 705 & pg. 717 to review the elements of these types of poems before writing. Your poem can be about school, a hobby, your family, or another approved topic. Have fun!
