  • Tuesday 1/27: Read aloud "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carroll. Students used the visualization strategy and illustrated either a scene/the setting from Jabberwocky or created a Jabberwocky mask (I supplied all materials needed for this assignment.) Homework: Finish your Jabberwocky poster, read 30 minutes, and study the poetry vocab. Reminder: The Poetry poster/foldable is due on tomorrow.
  • Wednesday 1/28: Identifying the Speaker-- Read pgs. 704-706 "The Geese" by Richard Peck. Homework: Reminder: Be mindful that this section is really short and we will have a mini-assessment (test) on Monday. Read 30 minutes and log entry and study poetry vocab.
  • Thursday 1/29: Identifying the Speaker--pg. 707 "Jimmy Jet and His TV Set" by Shel Silverstein. Read the poem in class and worked in pairs to compare and contrast the poem with "The Geese" (from yesterday). Students were to create a modified Venn Diagram. Homework: Finish Venn Diagram if additional time is needed, Pg. 707 #1-3 all parts, and read 30 minutes and log entry
  • Friday 1/30: Identifying the Speaker/Understanding Personification-- Pg. 708-712, "The Walrus and the Carpenter" by Lewis Carroll. Read aloud in class and discussed rhythm, beat, stanza, patterns, and word usage (multiple meanings). Homework: Pg. 713 all part and the top half of pg. 714. Use this as a study guide for your test on Monday. Study pgs. 702-714 to prepare for the test. In addition, you should consider re-reading the poems and study the key vocabulary.
